Polar Experience
A breathtaking journey to the coldest places on our planet: “POLAR EXPERIENCE – The Immersive Exhibition on the Arctic and Antarctic” celebrated its world premiere from December 6, 2025, to April 6, 2026. At the ARENA BERLIN industrial landmark, located in the heart of the city and right on the Spree River, the doors opened for the first time to this brand-new multimedia experience, which took visitors on a gripping expedition full of excitement, goosebumps, and wonder.
Using state-of-the-art technology, the “POLAR EXPERIENCE” transported its audience into the fascinating world of the Arctic and Antarctic. Immersive projections, virtual illusions, and impressive soundscapes brought majestic ice landscapes, unique wildlife, and groundbreaking research to life—from the expeditions of the research vessel “Polarstern” to the Neumayer Station near the South Pole.

Captivating stories, scientific precision, and impressive storytelling bring the coldest places on Earth to life and inspire action. This exhibition combines expedition experiences, research findings from the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), and concrete opportunities for visitors to get involved. This transforms a classic museum visit into an immersive journey to the most remote places on Earth, which moves visitors and inspires them to protect our planet!
The expedition leader
Professor Dr. Markus Rex is a polar researcher at the Alfred Wegener Institute in Potsdam. He and his team have already undertaken many research trips to the Arctic with the research vessel "Polarstern" or have set off from the Neumayer Research Station to explore the Antarctic. On their expeditions, the scientists find out how we can better protect the habitat of animals and people in the polar regions. The adventures of their journey and the findings of polar research are presented for the first time in an interactive, scientifically accompanied multimedia exhibition.

Climate Xplorers, watch out!
Become part of the "POLAR EXPERIENCE"!
Visitors could spot polar bears and penguins and go on an expedition to the North and South Poles. They immersed themselves in the adventure of science and were invited to become ambassadors for climate and environmental protection themselves. “Cosmo” from “Galileo Kids” was also there, taking children on a journey to the Arctic and Antarctic. Young visitors had their own audio guide featuring “Cosmo’s” voice, plenty of exciting discoveries in the exhibition, and even their own mini-magazine designed specifically for children.
